Board rules

These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on BCGEU Member Forum. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.

  1. Keep it clean and courteous

Use appropriate language and etiquette. Posts that include offensive or inappropriate language, or posts that may be considered rude or offensive, may be removed. We won’t tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or other hate speech. Healthy debate is encouraged, but personal attacks aren’t allowed. #
  2. What happens on the forum, stays on the forum

We ask that you don’t share private or sensitive information from the forum with your coworkers, and especially not with your managers or employer. This forum was created as a tool for BCGEU members to communicate outside the view of our employers’ computer systems. We want to keep it that way. #
  3. Avoid posting sensitive or private information on the forum

Please don’t post names or initials of members, stewards, or specific managers involved in any situation for which you may be seeking advice. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want other members to read. #
  4. No union politics allowed

No posts or comments promoting, or attacking, individual officers or groups of officers will be allowed. If these types of comments are posted, they’ll be deleted. Posting information regarding the process or timelines of elections is allowed, but will be carefully monitored for appropriateness. #
  5. Stay on topic

If there’s a posting that’s irrelevant to the topic at hand, moderators may suggest it be moved to a more appropriate thread. If there’s an existing thread for the idea you want to post about, post your comment there. Don’t create a new thread – it just complicates things. #
  6. Contribute to discussions fully

Stay away from short responses that add nothing to the conversation, such as, “I agree” or “Yes!” Take time to explain your position. This will encourage more interesting discussions. #
  7. Keep it legal

No posting of any information that’s known to be false, fraudulent, deceptive, inaccurate or misleading. Posts that have the potential to create a legal liability for the BCGEU will be deleted. So will posts that encourage others to participate in behaviour that’s considered unethical. #
  8. Keep it spam-free

Anything that looks like spam will be removed. As well, posting the same message in more than one thread may result in the post being removed. #
  9. Consequences of Violations

During the pilot period, union staff members will serve as moderators to ensure the Terms of Use are being followed. We’d like to keep moderation to a minimum. This is your forum. We hope participants will abide by the terms and encourage each other to do so.

All that said, the BCGEU reserves the right to edit or delete comments in violation of the terms. We’ll make note of any edits or deletions that occur. Members will be notified if their comments are seen as a breach of the code. Those who don’t comply will be at risk of having their accounts suspended or deleted. #
